In Alabama, the attorney general has said:

I spoke to Ward Beason in the Alabama Attorney General's office (800 831 8814 or 334-242-4287), and he confirmed that it is illegal to place political signage on state highways at all times. It is also illegal to place signage on public lands in counties and municipalities unless the candidate has explicit permission to do so if the municipality has no specific laws regulating it otherwise. Violations of this are considered litter and the person placing the signage is subject to the applicable fines.
The caveat to this, according to AGs office, is that you need to be able to prove who placed the sign. The fines/penalties do not automatically get assigned to the candidate or the party who is represented on the signage.
If you have a picture of a person placing a sign, or a tag number, you can call up the DA in the appropriate county/city, and swear out a complaint.

Thanks driveby! Sounds like we need to keep the pressure on with the digital photos of those who place the signs. Maybe the reward will catch us some. The problem is, they hire crews and get their folks to put them out at rediculous hours, when no one is up to catch them.

Do any of you guys know the legality of sign placement on city streets, county roads, etc. around Bessemer? Because I don't care where they are. The Reaper isn't biased!

The only stupid question is the one you don't ask.

I'd recommend you call Bessemer City Hall and ask them. kg4wic or Titan may be able to help you with that question as well - they are over that way.
